High atop a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, this one of 12 courses on our tasting menu. Roasted venison with a coffee, chocolate rub crust. I think maybe 4 of the courses were really great while the rest were just trying too hard. This is a great example of a chef’s creativity getting in the way of good tasting food. Also one of the most expensive meals of our trip. Of course I’ve heard from others that they’ve only had great experiences at Akalari. Oh well…maybe our next visit will be better if we come back during the season rather than in winter.

Filet of beef with three sauces. Pretty great.

A beautiful piece of Hake fish with a dust of herbs and spices. So good.

Another fish dish that failed completely. Looks cool, but tasted awful.

A rice based dish that looked bland but was packed with interesting flavors.

A dessert that failed. Frozen air was tasteless and the thing on top was too.

More crazy sweets from Akelare’. Didn’t love it.

Ridiculous concept of a smashed yogurt jar as confection. Probably sounded like a good idea, but poorly executed. More wow visually than taste…which was a total failure

The one dessert I really liked! Mango glee with chocolate leaves and berries. So good!
